چکیده
Spin liquid crystals are magnetic analogs of crystals, possessing properties both liquids and solids, a typical example which spin nematics. nematics share many features with liquids, the interplay between them is promising, but little explored, route to uncovering new phases matter. Here, we address this question in context spin-1 magnet on honeycomb lattice, by considering model biquadratic interactions, favoring spin-nematic states, Kitaev-like supporting liquids. Accompanying these, where dipole quadrupole moments compete, find plethora exotic phases, including multiple-$q$ states nonzero scalar chirality, quasi-one-dimensional coplanar phase, twisted conical noncoplanar order state gives way chiral at finite temperature. The implication these results for experiment discussed.

Vaporization of Kitaev spin liquids.
The quantum spin liquid is an exotic quantum state of matter in magnets. This state is a spin analog of liquid helium that does not solidify down to the lowest temperature due to strong quantum fluctuations. In conventional fluids, the liquid and gas possess the same symmetry and adiabatically connect to each other by bypassing the critical end point. We find that the situation is qualitatively...
متن کاملSpin Nematics, Valence-Bond Solids, and Spin Liquids in SO(N) Quantum Spin Models on the Triangular Lattice.
We introduce a simple model of SO(N) spins with two-site interactions which is amenable to quantum Monte Carlo studies without a sign problem on nonbipartite lattices. We present numerical results for this model on the two-dimensional triangular lattice where we find evidence for a spin nematic at small N, a valence-bond solid at large N, and a quantum spin liquid at intermediate N. By the intr...

متن کاملKitaev honeycomb and other exotic spin models with polar molecules
We show that ultracold polar molecules pinned in an optical lattice can be used to access a variety of exotic spin models, including the Kitaev honeycomb model. Treating each molecule as a rigid rotor, we use DC electric and microwave fields to define superpositions of rotational levels as effective spin degrees of freedom, while dipole-dipole interactions give rise to interactions between the ...
متن کاملQuantum spin liquids
This paper presents an overview of the properties of magnetic insulators, with emphasis on quantum effects. In particular, the consequences of strong quantum fluctuations on the low-energy properties of a number of systems are reviewed: the occurrence of a spin gap in spin-1 chains and other low-dimensional magnets; the presence of low-lying singlet excitations in several frustrated magnets; th...
